MEL News - December 2013

いよいよ2013年も終わりに近づき、新しく2014年を迎えますね。MEL Schoolでも年内すべてのレッスンを無事に終わらせることができました。4月からレッスンに参加している生徒さんにとっては、76回目のレッスンが終了したことになります。週2回のレッスンにきちんと出席することは、なかなか大変ですが、この8ヶ月で大きく力を伸ばした生徒さんもたくさんいます。ご家庭の支えがあればこそ、達成できたことだと心から感謝しております。
それでは、MEL News (2014年1月号)をお届けいたします。

News-1
9月からオランダ、香港、アメリカでの生活を始めた生徒さんから嬉しいお便りが届きました。みんな慣れない環境で頑張っているようです。UWC(United World College)香港校で学ぶ高校2年生は年末年始の一時帰国の折にMELSchoolに立ち寄ってくれました。充実した留学生活の話を聞き、大いに触発された生徒さんもいたようです。オランダのインターナショナルスクールに通う中学3年生からはクリスマスカードも届きました。お母様から現地の様子を知らせるメールもいただきました。彼女の著しい成長を感じることができます。こちらをクリックしてぜひご一読ください。

Update-1
年内最後のレッスンでは、中学生以上はほとんどのクラスでスピーチテストを行いました。どのクラスもこれまでで一番上手に発表ができました。相手に聞いてもらいたいという気持ちでお話する姿勢が見についてきていて、とても嬉しく思いました。
中学生以上のクラスでは冬休みの宿題も出ていますので、ご家庭でもぜひお声がけください。
年始のレッスンは1月4日(土)からになります。


Update-2

いよいよ高校、大学入試試験が近づいてきました。受験生には課題や過去問題を使って、問題への取り組み方や解答の仕方などの指導も行っています。みんな日頃の練習がいかに大切かを再認識しているようです。また、勉強時間が全体として増えているので、英語の学習力も向上しているようです。冬休み中にさらにパワーアップしてくれることを願っています。

Update-3
新Primary-1クラス(小学4-6年生の初心者)および新Junior-1(新中学1年生)クラスの体験レッスンを2月に実施いたします。ご兄弟やお知り合いでご希望の方がいらっしゃいましたら早めにお知らせください。なお、新Junior-1クラスは定員まで残りわずかとなっております。

Update-4
次回の英検は1月26日(日)に一次試験をMEL Schoolにて実施します。
集合時間は、4級、準2級が9:40 5級、3級が13:10です。
2級は受験票を渡しますので、指示に従って本会場で受験してください。

It's getting colder and colder. It seems like we're in the middle of the winter.
Congratulations on successfully finishing the second term.
You tried hard on the debate, didn't you?
All of the judges seemed to find it extremely challenging to give reasonable scores and comments.
Most of you felt you had a good experience and, at the same time, found there was room to improve your debate skills.
I'm happy to find you wrote you wanted to try harder next time.
We had a guest yesterday who is studying in Hong Kong after learning English at MEL School.
Most of you were really inspired by her speech.
We also had three speakers yesterday.
Aoi talked about visiting Nagoya with her family.
Riko talked about her plans to go to a concert and visit her grandparents.
Mizuki's speech was about a book she had been reading.

We learned about how difficult to predict the weather yesterday.
I was surprised to learn most of you didn't care the weather so much.
As for me, I check the forecast every day, at least a few times a day.
You worked hard on the preparation for the debate on 23rd.
Try your best to collect the data and research as much as you can, and you'll learn a lot from what you've done.
Our speaker yesterday was Harutaka.
He talked about a game called "Number Place". I've never tried one but it sounded interesting.
